We have often heard the phrase, “the museum of broken dreams”, yet, in Croatia, we have a real museum of broken relationships with the focus on lost loves. Today, we live in a society of broken dreams and lost relationships, but how can we fix this? Have we walked away from it all? With Valentine’s Day (February 14th) having just passed, not many understand the significance. Valentine’s Day started out as a “feast day” of religious ceremony for Christian saints named Valentinus. St. Valentine of Rome went to prison for performing weddings, to the soldiers who were not to marry and for aiding Christians, who were oppressed under the Roman Empire. If only we had the zeal of St. Valentine today.
Today, in Israel we are seeing a different kind of marriage vowel, in Yeshua. The God of Israel has always had a covenant relationship with his people, the Jews. This is demonstrated in his “agape love, “a spiritual love, and God’s love. It is a selfless love, (see 1 Corinthians 13) yet, you get a sense of a sacrificial love for his people. In the ancient manuscripts, this love is referred to as a “love feast” of the early church. So different is agape love from the various other forms of love.
Eros love, by Greek definition, is an erotic love between a man and a woman, a demonstration of their passion for one another. In essence, agape love should, be the main emphasis within the marriage, a selfless, self-sacrificing love, a love that is unconditional, meaning that there are no conditions attached. This in itself is a true expression of love.
On the other hand, you have brotherly love, (Philadelphia), a display of kindness, an act of charity towards mankind. Coming back to the God of Israel, you cannot beat his enduring, eternal and undeserved love; this is the love I am talking about, based on a covenant relationship with his people, a “one new man” experience that is bringing down the dividing wall between Jews today, in Yeshua and his gentile church.
John 3:16 mentions that “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him, shall not perish but have ever lasting life.” What a motivation to send Christ as a living sacrifice. 1 John 3:1 says, “How great is his love, to be children of God.” This gift must be received in faith.
The Jewish expression, hesed love, is returning the Jews to their homeland in preparation of God’s second coming. Unfortunately, many Jews are still blinded in the “one new man” Yeshua today. The Holy Bible teaches that in “the age of the gentiles,” he had not “blinded” the church.
In the Book of Zechariah, it mentions that he will pour out his blessed, loving kindness to his covenant, keeping people (the Jews) as well as the church. Galatians 3:8-9 says that all nations will be blessed by you (the Jews). God appointed Abraham as the head of Israel. In the New Testament, Yeshua is a descendant of Abraham and David; he lived a holy and righteous life, as declared in John 4:22. Salvation proceeds from the Jewish nation to make it available for us. Romans 8:28 is for the good of everyone.
Israel today, as a state, is secular. God’s covenant love will fix their sins. His character is intact; it is important to understand Deuteronomy 7:5-8: “you are a people holy to God to be his treasured people.” The Lord loved you and kept his covenant oath to your forefathers. Isaiah 27:6 says that Israel will return and blossom spiritually and physically. Romans 11:5 reads that at present time, there is a remnant of Jews being saved.
Jews today, are still clearly loved for the sake of the patriarch. Genesis 12:2, 3 says,” I will make you a great nation and bless those nations that bless you and for those who curse you I will curse.”
In history, we have had nations who were for Israel as a nation and those who suffered as a result. For example, Great Britain, who lost its greatness after breaking their word, on its deal with Israel, is one of those nations. We can be members of reconciliation to the Church and Israel.
Abba, father, we thank-you, repent of our sins and receive your gift of unmerited love, and we want your agape love to flow into many, so we can decrease that you may increase.
